Quadriceps Femoris – Nicole Gillett
Quadriceps femoris, also known as your quad muscles, is made up of 4 muscles. These four muscles make up the muscle on the front of the thigh. These muscles make up one of the largest muscles in the body.
The quad is a two-joint muscle; meaning, it is used in movements for the hip and knee. The 4 muscles that make up the quad are rectus femurs, vast us lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius. The main action of these muscles is to extend the leg to the knee joint. The nerve segments that supply the quad muscles come from your lumbar spine (low back) L2, L3, and L4. Damage to any of these can affect movement in these muscles.
