HEAT WAVE!!
This is the season we’ve all been waiting for ….summer. Along with summer comes lots of heat and outdoor time. As great as it is to be outside, enjoying the sun, and oh how lovely it is, we often forget how important it is to play safe and take care of ourselves.
One way to make sure we can do this is staying hydrated. I can’t begin to say how important this is. Staying hydrated is heart healthy friends! Helps your heart and cardiovascular pump and flow more efficiently, which also keeps your muscles functioning properly.
From being active or laying outside just enjoying the rays, you want to make sure you are getting fluids. Water is the best form for staying hydrated, which you can also obtain from certain foods. You shouldn’t wait until you feel thirsty. Often times, that means you are already becoming dehydrated.
Try to avoid drinks that are high in sugars as well as caffeine, as that acts as a diuretic and often will lead you to lose more fluid. Some signs of dehydration could be increase of thirst, dry mouth, head ache, swelling in limbs, and can also play a factor in suffering from heat stroke which can be mild to severe and quite dangerous.
So get out there and enjoy these beautiful days! Just be cautious and safe especially on the hotter than normal days.
