Will Massage Help with Sleep?

Will Massage Help with Sleep?

Everyone needs to have adequate amounts of sleep to be able to function. There could be many reasons why you are not sleeping enough some of those reasons could be, sleep apnea, stress or insomnia just to name a few. But did you know massage therapy could help you sleep better?

What can happen if you lack sleep?

Lack of rest reduces your lack of focus, which can reduce your ability to perform. You will have less energy and it could become dangerous at your job or even while driving. Research also shows that sleep deprivation may be leading to significant health problems, such as obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

If you have sleep apnea, you can get prescribed a machine that keeps your airways open. This machine looks like an oxygen mask that is worn over your mouth and nose and strapped around the back of your head. This will help lessen the snoring and keep the airways open. With sleep apnea, you could sleep for the recommended amount of time and still feel tired in the morning. Mostly because your body is working overtime to try and keep you breathing in your sleep. At that rate your body isn’t really getting any rest at all.

Massage therapy is proven to help reduce stress. If you have stress and that’s what keeps you up at night, consider getting regular massages. People with sleep disorders generally don’t get a lot of rest, so during a massage they go into a deep state of relaxation which is similar to sleeping for the body.

Massage therapy essentially affects the hormones. Studies show that massage increase the serotonin which increases the melatonin and helps circadian rhythms to reset.
