What to expect during your Massage?

What to expect during your Massage?

Getting a massage shouldn’t be a stressful event. We have highlighted what you should expect during a massage appointment to help put your mind at ease for your upcoming appointment!

Make sure it’s a Good Time to Have a Massage

If you are sick or have any skin irritations it would be best to reschedule. This benefits both you and the massage therapist. Getting a massage when you are trying to stop your nose from running isn’t a relaxing visit as you will sniffling the entire time which could be uncomfortable for yourself. If you have any concerns or not sure if it’s a good time, give us a call to ask any questions you may have!

Arriving Early

I can’t stress this enough. Arriving early is important because you don’t want the stress of potentially being late. Most times for your first massage the RMT will want to talk with you briefly about your health and where you may have pain to help focus on any tension you may have. The RMT will also explain the massage process and then they will also give you the choice of whichever option you will feel more comfortable regarding your clothes, some people find it more comfortable to only lay in their undergarments. After he/she is done talking they will leave the room for a few minutes while you take off your clothes and get comfortable and draped on the bed. They will knock before entering and await your reply so they do not disturb you.

Letting your Mind Wander

When going to your appointment you should just let your mind wander away from any stress you might have. The RMT will generally play some music, be sure to let them know if you want a different type of music or even silence during your visit.

Talking is Okay!

Don’t be afraid to talk to your therapist during your visit. The RMT will stay quiet until spoken to, but even if you need to let them know that they might be pressing too hard, or even not hard enough, but be sure to let them know as the whole experience of massage therapy is to benefit you! Please do not be shy about communicating about whether the pressure is too hard or not hard enough, everyone is different and we want to make sure that you are comfortable and relaxed and benefiting the most during your time with us.

Ending the Massage

At the end, the RMT will let you know time is up and leave the room so you can take your time getting ready. If you can, try to have some quiet time after your massage to maximize your relaxation. There is no need to rush out or to get ready as quick as you can. We want you to relax and awaken your senses back to normal as fast or as slow as you prefer.
